You just can’t get enough?
Here’s an interesting video from Bikeminded in London. Slick, stylish and certainly cycle chic, the video’s clearly pitched at the wealthy Chelsea and Kensington set. And what’s wrong with that? Well Cycle Chic doesn’t think there’s much of an issue, but what’s fascinating about this video is the way it infuriates some cyclists. But why?
Cycling has always had a strong socialist manifesto and working class background in the UK. Take the National Clarion Cycling Club for example. Formed to be a new way for collective fellowship and the broadcast of the socialist message, it blossomed from its Victorian beginnings in 1894.
Even today, these ties and socialist/ left leaning interests are important to many cyclists, perhaps more so than the country in general? So when a video appears that’s trying to promote cycling to a wealthy and prosperous demographic, you can imagine what happens. Comment after comment after comment. But what’s really important here? Trying to get a demographic on a bicycle instead of that Ferrari, or ignoring them because they are rich? You can make your own mind up, but on thing’s for certain. The cycling community is far from a single group pushing for shared goals like better cycling facilities or more road space. And we think it’s poorer for it.

Hi Cardiff Cycle Chic, Thanks for the page. I love checking out this site
