Pol and the St. Davids parade

Pol runs Cardiff Cycle Tours, based in Cardiff Bay. He has a fleet of cool bikes and is planning a St. Davids Day group ride as part of the tenth National St David’s Day Parade in Cardiff, to be held on Thursday March 1st. This event has grown from a few hundred at the first event to attract thousands of participants, spectators and with some international media interest. Pol’s specifically looking for volunteers who would like to ride in the Parade in Cardiff on his 10 or so bikes, or accompany the group on your own bike. The ride, which alas Cycle Chic cannot attend, will start at The Coal Exchange (where the bikes are stored) at around 11:00am, to join the Parade at 12:00 noon, finishing around 14:00pm. “It will be fun” says Pol. Cycle Chic also ran into Pol, who’s from Belgium, whilst he was taking a well earned cigar break in town, and sporting one of his many bikes. Bit of a dude…

Julian and Olga

Here’s more from the 2011 graduate shows at the London College of Fashion. This show is by Margarita Ruiz, and shows great flair around the Rapha aesthetic – we like the tweed-esque trousers and button down top with bold red buttons and mix of fabrics. See the full show here.

It’s great to see fashion graduates designing with cyclists in mind and if we had to choose bicycle specific clothing (which is slightly against the ethos of cycle chic, but who’s looking!), Margarita’s would be near the top of the list.

Laura’s reaction to meeting Cycle Chic was “This isn’t chic, why don’t you come back in the summer when I’m wearing a dress!”. Laura’s right, and it’s difficult to expect cyclists not to don full waterproofs under Cardiff’s heavy skies. But even wet weather gear can show a little personality. Take Laura’s combination of jacket and scarf colours – we’re hoping that these bright and bold colour contrasts do make their way into Laura’s summer time dresses, sandals and shades. Come on summer, hurry up!

Grace rides her fantastic Raleigh Chopper to work each day, a great statement of her individuality. Cycle Chic (obviously due to the shop in the background) met up with her before Christmas as she sped to work. No time to stop, Cycle Chic managed to get this image on the fly…Phew!

Allie has a unique style complemented by her bright pink cruiser bicycle. With a real decorative touch, Allie has adorned both bicycle and herself in bright accessories and, in particular, flowers. And look at those mittens, with added bobbles. Magic! Allie is also, we believe, part of the Tiger Bay Brawlers, Cardiff’s amazing roller derby team. Respect!

Rosalind is a wonderful supporter of cycle chic’s Harris inspired tweed rides. And it was on another sunny day when cycle chic met up with her as she was rushing to her office Christmas party. With no time to stop really, this image belies Rosalind’s stress at being late. But no matter, this is a lovely shot and Rosalind’s elegance and colourful styling shines through. With a smart double breasted coat and a few matching accessories, Rosalind’s created a very chic yet practical outfit. And then there’s the bicycle – one of the best in Cardiff! Bravo Rosalind!

Clare has already featured on Cardiff Cycle Chic after taking part in last October’s Harris Hack. Now dressed about 50 years more modern than the last time we met her, Clare’s wearing a lovely warm parka and bobble hat that’s perfect for surviving the chilly streets of Cardiff. But the biggest splash of colour comes from her amazing panniers and bright Pasley bicycle. Nice one Clare for braving the temperatures!
