Sitting like a guy with the world at his feet, “Slim” spends his time sitting on this telecoms box in Canton drinking cans and surveying his domain. Slim uses his BMX to ride the few miles from Ely to this lookout perch most days, where he waits for his mates. “I prefer mountain bikes” he says, whilst we talk about BMX’ing. “Trouble is” he says, “my mountain bike, which I had before I got this BMX, got totally smashed up by some guys”.
When we think of cyclists, we probably don’t think about people like Slim – yet Slim’s freedom is inexorably linked to his two wheels, just like many of us.
